There is much to do and much to say. We’ve been around for 20 years. We started as a small time DJ partnership in 1998. Two young high school kids trying to hustle into a music career. Now in 2018 I am happy to say we are finally finding some clarity to the madness that a 2 decade labor of love has led too. While Faultlinemusic has been pretty quite for the last decade the idea in spirit never went away it just changed forms. We started Faultlinemusic.net around 1999. Between 1999-2001 we helped throw and support quite a few house parties, field parties, barn parties and a few warehouse parties. Then we went off to professional music school in 2002 and the idea took a back seat to trying to break into studio engineering and professional live sound. In 2007 I picked up Faultlinemusic.com because it was finally available, even though I didn’t have a purpose or direction for it at the time. You become an adult and quickly realize that having a regular job started to make more sense. The fault of that time was that a regular job existed and that I even wanted that in the first place.
Around 2016 I was getting back in to DJ’n gigs and wanted to reboot Faultlinemusic into the DJ scene again. Being 30 however and knowing all too well that the hustle of being a club DJ wasn’t always worth the time. I ‘sold out’ and started to build a wedding DJ business hoping for around 20 weddings a year to help pay some bills and keep me involved in music production. Well, if you didn’t know, Faultlinemusic, was never meant to be a wedding business. In fact the short time that I tried to make it work. I got zero response from potential clients. The name said it all. So I broke down and left this vacant, yet again as I went and found the generic, industry safe, name for my wedding gigs. It hurt. I didn’t want to do it. I posted a new website and online listing and all of a sudden the inquiries started rolling in. Now in 2018, I am extremely happy the way this played out. Finally. After 20 years all these different projects and ideas have places they can exist, outside of the Faultline.
Productions KC is where I can finally put my wedding contracts and potential corporate events. I’ve been the DJ/MC for over 100 weddings lifetime so while it isn’t rock n roll or mega concerts, it is still playing or supporting music and earning some extra scratch. It has also led me into some smaller corporate gigs and we will begin to acquire new gear as we grow. Along side weddings we have provided sound support for a few corporate events and we are training newer sound operators to build out our crew.
We started another offshoot a few years ago for motion graphics and custom art installations combining micro controller electronic technologies. Wwaver became the official LLC and in 2017 we made a pretty good splash in the Kansas City scene with some projects in cooperation with other area production and advertising companies. Our first official year in business was a good way to learn about where we want to take these projects overall. We are currently operating under these new official business names and that means that the only thing left to do with Faultlinemusic is return to what it began as. To reconnect with our youth. Our love of rock music, parties, good times and fruit salad.
In 2018 my plans for Faultlinemusic are small but valid. To finally offer a place to learn about events, new music, and anything else that seems cool and relevant to the idea. At 36 years old I can say that I am happy this place is now free. Free to be what I always wanted it to be.
